Title: Responses of insects to warming temperatures and introduced plants from the local to landscape scale

Abstract: Ongoing increases in temperature and the spread of plant species outside of their native ranges are two of the most prominent causes of environmental change worldwide. Surprisingly, we have a limited understanding of how these forces affect the composition and function of ecological communities in nature. In this presentation, I will use data from lab and field experiments, museum collections, community science partnerships, and computer vision models to illustrate how insects have responded to warming temperatures and introduced plants from the local to the landscape scale. Collaborators on this work include UBC undergraduate and graduate students, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, the David Suzuki Foundation Butterflies in My Backyard Project, and the UBC Data Science Institute.
