The Biodiversity Discussion Group meets weekly to discuss recent research papers and topics in biodiversity from both ecological and evolutionary perspectives. Readings can be on any taxonomic group (plants, animals, microbes, etc.) and/or dig into new concepts, methods, theories we are keen to learn more about.
We meet Friday afternoons at Noon in Biodiversity Rm 225 and on ZOOM . Our overarching theme of discussion this term is "The Complexities of Species Interactions". Many of the most nuanced and complex processes in ecology and evolution center on the myriad ways in which species interact, whether it be through symbioses, competition, trophic interactions etc. We look forward to hearing from a variety of folks sharing papers that study how interspecific interactions drive larger processes. If things go well, I can even foresee the group writing up something based on our chats over the term!
We use Slack as the primary form of communication for this group, and if you haven't already done so you can join our channel here. You can also acccess our schedule of topics and presenters for the term at this Google Drive link. Hope to see you there!
