Tom Booker PhD
Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow
Zoology
Bio:
I was a BRC bioinformatics postdoc from 2020-2023. I’m an evolutionary geneticist using genomics to better understand adaptation in natural populations. This is basic research central to our understanding of evolution, but it has important applications to the conservation and management of species as climate change progresses.
Research highlights:
- Methods to identity genomic regions subject to local adaptation in one or more species
- Factors that affect the evolution of local adaptation in spatially heterogeneous environments
- The forces that shape patterns of genetic variation across the genome
- Characterizing the effects of new mutations on fitness
Testimonial:
The BRITE Postdoctoral Fellowship program gave me the freedom to freely pursue my research interests and to forge collaborations across institutions. This freedom has been central to my growth as a scientist. The support and academic freedom the BRITE program offers.
