The Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia is seeking applications from current UBC faculty members for the position of Director of the Biodiversity Research Centre (BRC). Intersecting with several academic departments and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum in the Faculty of Science, as well as a broad network of faculty from across UBC, the BRC is committed to excellence in research and education. The mission of the BRC is to understand and conserve the diversity of life on Earth through research, education, and outreach. We seek a faculty member with a compelling research vision to provide administrative, intellectual, social, and academic leadership for the future of the Biodiversity Research Centre at UBC. A successful candidate will have an excellent research profile, a strong commitment to educational and outreach programs, and dedication to work with BRC members to advance the centre through the support of existing priorities including the BRC expansion, and development of future centre direction. The candidate will be a strong advocate for the centre with its University and external partners.
The position is for a five-year term beginning January 1, 2022; it is considered to be part time, supplementing the applicant’s faculty position. Applicants must be tenured faculty members at the University of British Columbia, with strong preference being given to those currently at the rank of Professor. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply; and we especially welcome applications from members of under-represented groups with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities.
