Title: Tropical mountain ecosystems under global change: Impact of climate and land use changes on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning
Abstract: Tropical mountains show extensive climate gradients and are global centres of biodiversity (1). They can be used as ‘natural laboratories’ to better understand the drivers of biodiversity and the consequences of ongoing global changes (2–4). In my talk I will present insights from our studies in East Africa and the Peruvian Andes on the interrelated effects of climate, energy availability and land use on species diversity and ecosystem functions in tropical mountain ecosystems (5–9).
