Title: Increasing the impact of ecological research beyond academia

Abstract: My lab’s research is motivated by the challenge of accurately predicting the impacts of global change on plant and insect communities. We were recently inspired by three key realizations: i) that most academic research stays within academia; ii) that many conservation decisions are not evidence-based; and that iii) solution-based conservation research is underrepresented in the literature. In this seminar, I will describe how we have been working to expand the impact of our research on restoration and conservation strategies for field habitats and threatened species like the monarch butterfly, with the aim of reaching a broader audience beyond academia.
