Biodiversity Research Seminar Series (BRS)
BRS: Chelsea Little "Everything Is Moving: Ecosystem Function in a Changing World"
January 29, 2020, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
host: Rachel Germain, cookies: Sean M and Gil H
Topic: My research centers on how connections between ecosystems influences their dynamics and functioning. In this talk, I will present how spatial configuration of ecosystems in a landscape affects the flow of materials and organisms between them; focus on some typical pairings of connected ecosystems; present synthetic data on how movement spatial flows of resources (abiotic or biotically-mediated) contribute to local ecosystem functioning; and discuss how information moves across landscapes, as well as how its use by organisms alters all types of flows. In each of these parts of the talk, I will also focus on how anthropogenic change is shifting spatial flows and ecosystem function.
